Situated in the little market town of Chabris on the beautiful River Cher, this property has huge potential but is currently unoccupied and in need of some TLC.
Thought to date from around 1900, it is a house in three parts on a surprisingly large, L-shaped plot. Just a few minutes' walk from the town centre in one direction and the station in the other, it is very conveniently located.
The property opens onto two quiet streets; from one side you enter a courtyard garden and approach the front door while the other side brings you into the 285 sq.m. main garden, where a vehicle could be parked. From this side you enter the house via the kitchen door.
At ground floor level there is a lounge with windows looking out on the garden both to the south and east. Over at the other side of the house beyond the kitchen, is a dining room facing the courtyard garden. It has a wood-burning fireplace and original tiled flooring. Below the kitchen is a useful cellar containing a well which is used to water the garden. The kitchen itself will need replacing.
Upstairs are two bedrooms, one with an original marble fireplace and a small bathroom, while there is also an attic area ripe for conversion. The main loft is also a candidate for the creation of a new, en-suite bedroom.
The power supply to the house is modern and all mains services are connected, but internally the plumbing and electrics will all need to be renewed. Purchasers will also want to install a new kitchen and bathrooms, so the property should be considered a project which will require a reasonable amount of work. In the end though, it should create a really lovely home either for holidays or as a permanent residence.
Chabris itself is a delightful traditional village at the very north end of the Indre department, where we have made our home. It has with all the services you could require, complete with its Saturday morning market, library and sports facilities. There are doctors, dentists, banks, and a post office. A village with the facilities of a large town, it still has plenty of local shops and a large supermarket. Surrounded by farmland and woods, there are several major towns within an hour's drive and Paris is just 2-3 hours away by motorway or train.
This house for renovation is on offer at a very reasonable price, reflecting the effort involved in returning it to its former glory.
