Solidly built Maison de Maître on the outskirts of Valençay. An attractive house in a great position, crying out for renovation to restore it to its former glory.

We have long admired this house and are delighted to be allowed to sell it on behalf of the Parisian owners. It sits on an approach road into the chateau town of Valençay; great country views, overlooking farmland and the stream at the end of the garden.

Simply put, the house consists of four large rooms (approx. 4m x 4m) plus an access corridor on each floor, with convertible loft space above and a cellar below. Internal walls are well constructed but removable so that you could create, for instance, an 8m x 4m living room with windows front and back. This is flexible living space at its best!

The walls are solid and dry, and the roof is sound; central heating uses a fuel oil boiler in the cellar but there is town gas in the road if you prefer to convert. Mains services are all connected so the only major restoration work would involve electrics and sanitation.

Some lovely original features add to the quality feel of the property. Outside note the dressed and carved limestone stone detailing around doors and windows (including a circular dormer window) which are themselves original. There is ornamental metalwork grill on the front and rear doors and guards for each window; the glass porch to protect visitors from the rain, old pump in the garden….the list is endless.

Inside there are marble fireplaces in each room, ornamental plasterwork, wood panelling and other items of architectural interest. Ceilings are high and give an elegant atmosphere to the rooms. For those needing more accommodation the attic is eminently suitable for conversion.

The kitchen and bathrooms are effectively non-existent so these will need installing; we did this in our own home so we can point you in the direction of excellent craftsmen. The best electrical company for miles around is based in Valençay so you will have no problems there either.

Outside there is a large shed and a long sloping garden which runs down to the River Nahon which has fish and crayfish. The garden was cultivated and apparently very fertile but is a bit overgrown now and in need of a green-fingered make-over.

Valençay is a lovely little white stone town, with a famous chateau, train station and all the shops you would need to live or holiday here. A weekly market, sports facilities and local wine and cheese make it an attractive place to visit. For residents there are schools, doctors, a vet and everything else you would expect, together with a range of cultural activities.
